Thunderstorm Threat
- The greatest threat of a thunderstorm to an aircraft is turbulence, which can exceed the structural limits of the airframe.
- Other hazards include hail, lightning, icing, and heavy rain that can flame out engines.
- Weather radar helps the pilot see and avoid thunderstorms, especially at night or in IMC (instrument meteorological conditions).
